What are discipleship triads? A discipleship triad is a group of three people who meet bi-weekly and are committed to personal transformation through focusing on the Word of God, developing trust by speaking the truth in love and a commitment to deepening community within the larger body of Christ. Trinity currently has around 30 people involved in different triads meeting in homes throughout Grand Rapids (and even one in Holland).
How often will triads meet? We suggest that the triads meet every other week for 1 -2 hours beginning in October and going through May. Triads will then be invited to a gathering where the experience will be evaluated and decisions made about whether individual triads will continue or whether some of them will divide and begin additional triads. New triads can and will be formed throughout the year. The hope is that many people at Trinity will choose to be part of a triad in the next 2-3 years.
Can non-Trinity members join the triads? Yes! All are welcome to join these discipleship groups that are centered around support and accountability. In fact, at least two current triads are comprised of mostly non-Trinity folk.
How will triads be formed and who will convene them? We can begin new triads at anytime. The Discipleship Ministry Team is willing to resource persons and triads ready to get started.
How will the triads spend their time together? Each time the triad meets, participants will: check in with each about the challenges and celebrations of life; pray; engage in some sort of devotional time (two different resources are already on the church website –a scripture study guide called lecto Divina and a guide entitled “Sleeping with Bread”); and hold each other accountable for deepening growth in Christ and the ways in which God’s grace is being shared with others
What does the discipleship team hope people will experience through the triad experience? The expectation is that those who take part in a triad will experience: deepening prayer; mutual encouragement; accountability for growth as disciples of Christ; personal transformation; connectedness to the larger body of Christ; growing self and God awareness; a clearer sense of what it means to be the presence of Christ in the world.
